Narrative Bio

Dr. Anza B. Memon is an Associate Professor Clinical of Neurology at Wayne State University School of Medicine, clinical researcher, and educator specializing in multiple sclerosis and clinical neuroimmunology. She is dual fellowship-trained in Multiple Sclerosis (MS)/Neuroimmunology and Clinical Neurophysiology/EMG. Dr. Memon serves as an interim Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence East at the Veterans Affairs and the MS Regional Specialty Program Director at the Detroit VA. She also leads the Neurology Research Program and Neurophysiology Lab at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit. 

With extensive expertise in multiple sclerosis, autoimmune neurology, and immune-mediated neuromuscular disorders, Dr. Memon has led numerous clinical trials and investigator-initiated research studies, including biomarker discovery in diabetic peripheral neuropathy and magnetoencephalography (MEG) studies on MS-related fatigue and cognition. Her research interests include the discovery of imaging and blood biomarkers for treating neuroimmune disorders. She has secured funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and other industry funding at the Detroit VA to advance clinical and translational research in diabetic peripheral neuropathy and MS.

A dedicated mentor and educator, Dr. Memon has received multiple teaching accolades, including the A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and several faculty teaching awards from Wayne State University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN) and actively contributes as an editor and reviewer for several neurology journals.

Dr. Memon’s leadership extends beyond academia, as she plays a pivotal role in national VA initiatives to improve MS care for veterans. She has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences, addressing cutting-edge topics in neuroimmunology, MS therapeutics, and neurophysiology.

Her research, teaching, and clinical excellence have made her a recognized leader in neurology, dedicated to advancing patient care, mentoring future neurologists, and driving innovation in neuroimmunology research. Her research work has earned her the President’s Research Initiative Award twice from the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) in recognition of her significant contributions to the field.
