Narrative Bio

Arun K. Sherma, MD is Assistant Professor of Neurology, Clinical at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He is a faculty member within the Division of Neurotrauma and Neurocritical Care in the Department of Neurology.

Dr. Sherma received his BA in Psychology/Neuroscience from Northwestern University in 2002 and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2006. He completed his surgery internship at Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island and neurosurgical training and research in the Department of Neurosurgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California- Los Angeles. Dr. Sherma completed a combined residency in Neurology and Internal Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA in July 2018. He completed a Neurocritical Care fellowship with the Division of Neurocritical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Critical Care/ Anesthesiology- University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA in 2018.

Dr. Sherma has received several awards. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 2014. He was named Internal Medicine Resident of the Year in 2015 at Tulane University of School of Medicine. He served as Neurology Chief Resident in 2014-2015. He received the Neurocritical Care Resident of the Year award in 2016 from Ochsner Medical Center, New Orleans. He was given the Award for Excellence in Leadership with the Division of Neurocritical Care, Department of Neurology from Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania in 2017.

Dr. Sherma's research interests include the critical care management of subarachnoid hemorrhage, multimodality monitoring, traumatic brain injury, systems improvement, and health disparity.
