Narrative Bio

Maher Fakhouri, M.D. is Associate Professor in Neurology and has served as a faculty member in the Department of Neurology since 1995. He has served as the Clerkship Director for the Department of Neurology since 2000. He recently served on The Advisory Committee on pain and symptom management, State of Michigan (Representing Wayne State University School of Medicine), appointed by Governor Rick Snyder in July 2015.

Dr. Fakhouri previously served as reviewer for The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Clinical Neurology Subject Examination.  He also served as reviewer on The American Institute of Biological Sciences Chronic Pain/Orthopedic Injury Evaluation Panel and the Journal of Neurological Sciences, and the Headache Journal (Journal of the American Headache Society). He is currently a member on the Clerkship Committee at Wayne State University School of Medicine and a member of the Wayne State University School of Medicine Department of Neurology, Clinical Competency Committee. He previously was a staff member of the Department of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati. He is certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (1992). The American Board of Pain Medicine, formerly The American College of Pain Medicine (1993), and The American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (1994, recertified in 2004).

His interests include Clinical Neurology teaching, Pain Medicine, Headache and Electromyography.
