Ryan Castoro, DO - Biographical Sketch

Dr. Castoro is an assistant professor in the departments of Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a specific focus on inherited peripheral nerve diseases and motor neuron diseases.   He completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and completed his Neuromuscular fellowship at Wake Forrest Baptist Medical Center.  Clinically he sees patients with a variety of neuromuscular pathologies in addition to directing the Charcot-Marie-Tooth clinic at Detroit Medical Center.  His research focus is peripheral imaging based biomarkers for patients with peripheral nerve diseases and understanding the role of epigenetics in motor neuron degeneration in patients with inherited neuropathies and motor neuron disease such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease), Progressive Muscular Atrophy (PMA), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)  and other similar disorders.
