Welcome!
The faculty and staff of the Department of Neurology at Wayne State University welcome you to our program. We hope that your three years clinical neurology and neuroscience training in our program will be both fun and educational. We are committed to a quality education for our residents and excellent care for our patients; these goals are achievable if we work together.
Neurology is not learned merely by reading books and articles. Being an excellent clinical neurologist requires that you be able to think your way through problems from many different perspectives. Fortunately, the diverse faculty in this department provide great opportunities to see different methods of patient care in action.
Outpatient care is an increasingly important part of neurology. In addition to teaching residents how to focus their thoughts in a limited time, it also provides residents with a valuable exercise in professionalism and communication skills. All residents will participate in outpatient clinics at least one half-day per week regardless of rotation assignment, and residents also will rotate through subspecialty clinics. Residents at the VA and CHM will also attend faculty clinics there. Residents will see new patients and established patients alternating every other week.
